Guadarun 2008
The Guadarun is a 150km stage race
held on the islands of Guadeloupe in the French-speaking
Eastern Caribbean. It is divided into five daily stages,
each of which takes place on a different island, showing
competitors to the full variety of the volcanic and coral-based
terrain of this fantastic Caribbean archipelago. The race
is fully supported, so all meals are provided and during
each stage there are checkpoints every 7km where water is
supplied.
Guadarun 2008
The 2008 edition of the Guadarun
will take place from 23rd 30th March 2008.
The cost is 1090 euros, excluding flights, but includes all meals, accommodation, transfers . Return flights from Paris to Pointe a pitre should cost in the region of 500 euros.
etc.
How Tough is it?
Competitors can expect a good variety of terrain on the paths and forest trails, including soil, mud and sand. Each island is unique, and the route takes runners through rain forest, up mountains paths, across rivers, through valleys and along beaches. On the longest stages (as long as 10 hours) there are two levels of course, and if the medical team do not feel a competitor is capable of completing the tougher level, they can force them to take the easier route. The heat will also take its toll in the forest it is humid and outside you will be exposed directly to the tropical sun. Be prepared for blisters and aches and pains. As the race is divided into stages, there is at least some recovery time.
