Did you know women are more susceptible to stress fractures than men?
This applies particularly to those with erratic menstrual cycles,or amenorrehea, as this may result in weaker bones due to a lack of oestrogen.
Osteoporosis and fractures can be a result of this.
A stress fracture is a tiny crack in the surface of the bone, generally caused by the impact of running (or walking).
Most frequently they occur in the tibia or shin, but they can also occur in the pelvis or groin area, often they wont even show on an xray,so will need to be diagnosed with a bone scan.
